The Product & Data Engineering team is responsible for end to end development for Disney s world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. We are looking for a software engineer who wants to build and operate these critical services that support a massive population of Hulu viewers! Job Summary: You ll join a hardworking group of engineers who build and manage systems that publish data to Hulu s internal and edge-facing services ultimately powering Hulu clients running on smart TVs, smartphones, gaming consoles, FireTV, Apple TV, Roku, and others. We re passionate about data just like you! You ll apply your experience with database technologies to construct distributed, large-scale services. Responsibilities and Duties of the Role: Guide an engineering team in its ownership of systems and processes Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to establish priorities Champion cross-team projects Collaborate efficiently with product management, technical program management, operations, and other engineering teams to capture requirements, drive implementation, and provide transparency Provide priority and roadmap guidance to engineers and project managers through regular sprint planning and daily check-ins Provide input for stakeholders and decision makers in architecture, roadmap, and product Communicate architecture, roadmap, and product objectives to engineers and gather feedback for stakeholders Coach and mentor other specialists on the team to ensure that all software utilizes Hulu and industry best practices for data persistence Work with individual engineers to map out career growth and goals Create an environment of trust for people to be themselves and able to excel Basic Qualifications: Strong discipline to delegate work and focus on solving management problems Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills A broad perspective on problem-solving An ability to drive complex and high-profile projects without overextending personal health or well-being of your team Strong programming skills in an object-oriented language, and a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, databases, etc.) An ability to work both independently and collaboratively 8 years of experience in software engineering with a significant portion as a programmer and/or technical leader 5+ years of related experience crafting large-scale, highly available Java services utilizing various database and messaging technologies 3 years of experience as a manager of software engineers Experience deploying and scaling within a cloud infrastructure Experience directly managing and mentoring a team Experience using source control systems and CI/CD pipelines Required Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience The hiring range for this position in San Francisco is $180,200 to $241,600 per year, in Seattle or New York is $172,300, to $231,100 per year and in Santa Monica is $164,500 to $220,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
