We have two parts of our business. On the consumer side, we have Abound. Abound has proven that our approach works at scale, with over £800 million lent to-date. While other lenders only look at your credit score, we use Open Banking to look at the full picture – what you earn, how you spend, and what’s left at the end.
On the B2B side, we have Render. Render is our award-winning software-as-a-service platform that allows Abound to make better, less risky lending decisions. And less risky decisions mean we can offer customers better rates than they can usually find elsewhere. We’re taking Render global so that more companies, from high-street banks to other fintechs, can offer affordable credit to their customers.
About the team
We are a successful financial services enterprise that offers personal loans in the UK. Our mission is to increase access to affordable loans by looking beyond credit scores- we consider a person's earnings, spending habits and overall financial health to drive our lending decisions. We launched in March 2021 and have grown exponentially since, with further exciting plans for the future.
We pride ourselves on bringing affordable lending to the market whilst making the right decisions based on the individual rather than their credit report. Our determination, approach, and resourcefulness have set us apart from our competitors for the better.
We have an open plan office, encouraging lateral communication of different departments to bolster both individual and collective expertise, knowledge, and collaborative support, where you can apply your experience and skills to further develop and improve aspects of the business and yourself.
How we work
Shifts: Monday-Friday 8 am - 8 pm (shift patterns).
One Saturday a month- returned in Overtime or time in lieu.
Bank holidays – Minimum of two bank holidays per year- returned in Overtime or time in lieu.
About the role
We are seeking a skilled Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will assess risk and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines. The ideal candidate will have experience working to targets, underwriting and strong analytical skills.
What you'll be doing
Evaluate unsecured credit applications utilising data from Open Banking and credit reference agencies to ascertain applicant creditworthiness and drive responsible decisions.
Aid in developing processes and procedures, and always strive for improvements.
Assess customer affordability and ascertain their creditworthiness
Carry out Fraud and AML checks
Follow underwriting policy and procedures
Liaise with customers to capture information and document where necessary
Ability to work independently and take steps to enhance own knowledge when required.
Work in a queue and strong pipeline management
Who you are
Minimum two years’ proven experience as an underwriter
Target-driven with an understanding and desire to achieve our collective goals.
Proficiency in data analysis and evaluation.
A developed understanding of fraud/AML, customer vulnerabilities and a keen eye for detail/recognising concerning trends.
Healthy IT and mathematical foundational knowledge with good written English and communication skills.
Ability to make informed decisions under pressure and to be able to pivot in a fast-changing environment
Exceptional personal organisational skills, pipeline and time management with a strong work ethic.
