[Remote] Staff Full Stack Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Healthie is the world’s leading API-first, ONC-Certified EHR for healthcare delivery outside of the hospital. They are seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer to drive the evolution of their platform, balancing modernization with execution while collaborating across multiple teams to build and scale systems that support critical healthcare workflows.
Responsibilities
- Help drive the evolution of Healthie’s platform across both legacy systems and new product development, balancing thoughtful modernization with pragmatic execution in a fast-moving healthcare environment
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, Platform, and Engineering teams to architect, build, and scale systems that power critical healthcare workflows for providers and patients
- Span backend and frontend development, platform improvements, API design, system architecture, performance optimization, and developer experience initiatives across both established and greenfield areas of our platform
- Play a key role in shaping the future of Healthie’s architecture while also improving and maintaining highly utilized production systems that support millions of patient interactions and billions of API calls
- Help lead technical direction across the organization, mentor engineers, raise the engineering bar, and influence how we build scalable, reliable, and maintainable software
Skills
- 8+ years of experience building and scaling production software systems, including experience working across both legacy and greenfield environments
- Strong full stack engineering experience and are comfortable owning projects across backend systems, frontend applications, APIs, infrastructure-adjacent work, and system integrations
- Direct experience with our tech stack: Rails, React, TypeScript, GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq, RSpec, and Capybara
- Deep experience with software architecture, systems design, scalability, reliability, and performance optimization in complex production environments
- Understand how to thoughtfully evolve legacy systems while balancing business needs, technical debt, speed, and long-term maintainability
- Highly collaborative and excel at partnering cross-functionally with engineering, product, design, and operational stakeholders
- Comfortable leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and influencing architectural decisions across teams without relying on formal authority
- Thrive in fast-paced startup environments and are able to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic execution
- Strong product and customer intuition and care deeply about building reliable, intuitive systems that improve outcomes for healthcare organizations and patients

- Experience contributing to platform modernization initiatives, monolith decomposition, or large-scale architectural migrations
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering workflows, developer tooling, or automation to improve engineering velocity and quality
