Technical Sales Representative – Industrial Process Equipment (Territory Manager – Western & Central

Remote Worldwide Hiring now

Technical Sales Representative – Industrial Process Equipment (Territory Manager – Western & Central New York) This is a critical, highly-autonomous role in a growing territory with substantial upside as a full-time Technical Sales Representative and Western & Central New York Regional Area Manager with an independent manufacturer's representative firm that covers the New England States (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT) and New York State (NY). This role is best suited for a self-directed, entrepreneurial producer who wants to operate independently while building a meaningful territory. This is a critical role within a small organization that offers strong support, training, and collaboration. If you are looking for a lean, non-corporate working environment, and/or if you want the results of your work to directly impact your ability to make more money, this could be the job for you. This role rewards proactive business development and will be less satisfying for those who prefer primarily inbound or maintenance-based sales roles. The firm represents manufacturers of Process Equipment in the niche market of bulk material handling and processing. Applications for this type of equipment range across a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, recycling, alternative energy, alternative materials, minerals processing, food manufacturing, plastics, and more. Please explore the firm's website (www.ev-ne.com) and follow the links to the manufacturers the firm represents to get a feel for the work we do. Typical work requires visiting industrial facilities and customer office locations, identifying sales opportunities for industrial process equipment, quoting, and following up on the opportunity to obtain an order, facilitating a successful order execution, and staying in touch with the customer after an order. Opportunities range from single unit sales - a rotary airlock, a dust collector, a mixer - to large and complex systems that address multiple critical needs within an industrial facility - dryer systems, pneumatic conveying systems, and others. The ideal candidate for this role is a self-motivated sales leader with technical knowledge, listening and communicating skills, the ability to build relationships as a trusted resource, the persistence and resilience to strategically navigate a complex sales cycle, and the ability to operate efficiently, effectively, and independently. Work will primarily be from the selected candidate’s home office / remote office, plus regular day trips to visit customers within the sales territory, and occasional overnight trips within the sales territory. Some out-of-territory travel is possible, especially during training and onboarding. The ideal candidate’s home office will be located in Central New York State – in the Syracuse or Rochester area, positioned along I-90 for frequent travel to the Buffalo area and occasionally to Massachusetts / New England. Other locations in NY will be considered. Travel within the sales territory will require use of the selected candidate’s own personal vehicle. Mileage and lodging is reimbursed. Responsibilities:

  • Learning the lines of equipment EV-NE represents.
  • Establishing relationships with EV-NE’s Principals and Customers.
  • Identifying and acting upon sales opportunities.
  • Promptly and effectively following leads.
  • Proactively prospecting and developing new business across the territory (this is a hunter role, not an order-taking position), opening doors to new customers and new industries.
  • Identifying business development opportunities and implementing a business development plan.
  • Regularly traveling to customer sites to generate business.
  • Issuing requests for proposals to principals, supporting the proposal development process, and presenting proposals to customers.
  • Regularly and efficiently following up on and facilitating sales opportunities.
  • Closing sales and reporting orders.
  • Thorough record keeping and data entry in the firm’s CRM.
  • Reporting directly to the owner and supporting the owner’s work and key initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with industrial Process Equipment, especially bulk material handling and processing equipment.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with 3+ years of experience in a sales role such as Sales Representative, Sales Manager, Applications Engineering, or Inside / Outside Sales.
  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment and engineering concepts.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and responsible.
  • Organized and efficient.
  • Exceptional communication skills (phone, email, text, in person) and relationship development skills.
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and easy to understand manner including through hand drawings and occasionally 3D modeling.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Has own reliable vehicle (mileage to be reimbursed).
  • Maintains own home office within Central New York area.

Compensation depends on experience. Earnings are directly tied to the growth the selected candidate creates in the territory.

  • Base Salary plus split commissions after break-even will be offered to an experienced candidate.
  • Base Salary plus bonus structure will be offered to candidates with less experience.
  • Commissions-only structures could be negotiated for a candidate only with significant experience.
