About the position Intercity Transit is a growing, innovative, and mission-driven Public Agency that provides fare-free public transportation to the people who live and work within Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Yelm. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, collaborative, transportation professional that wants to grow their career in public service to join our Development Team as a Senior Planner! Senior Planners lead service development research and analysis projects, prepare various reports, design and implement new and revised schedules, and coordinate changes to fixed route service and bus stops. Senior Planners maintain and demonstrate familiarity of development processes, applicable regulations, project management and construction, as well as expertise in transit operations, infrastructure and technology. Intercity Transit is recruiting for a Senior Planner capable of successfully initiating and leading the implementation of transit-related projects among local stakeholders including cities, community groups, and land developers. We are looking for a planning professional that enjoys working with groups within the community to advance projects and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve, audit, filter, and report various system performance metrics to monitor system trends and ensure accurate collection and publishing of federally required service data.
  • Perform advanced analytical work to evaluate, understand, and communicate the performance and use of fixed route service.
  • Lead research, development, and implementation of public transit service, including new or modified routes, stops, or schedules, as well as new emerging modes of public transportation service.
  • Support the coordination of pre-determined detours, foul weather adjustments, stop closures, and other disruptions to scheduled transit service.
  • Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of passenger or public surveys and participates in public meetings and workshops with local officials, agencies, jurisdictions, groups, and the general public.
  • Prepare and submit correspondence regarding community development proposals; advocates that public access to transit facilities and service, as well as operability of current and future transit routes and schedules, are appropriately considered.
  • Represent the agency at various meetings, gatherings and forums regarding regional transportation planning, or the coordination and collaboration of current or future transit service with State/regional planning jurisdictions or other transit agencies.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in transportation or urban planning, geography, engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Seven (7) years in planning, transportation, and administration including data collection and analysis. A relevant master's degree or graduate level course work may be substituted for some of required work experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards and legal regulations governing transit service design and changes; principles of public transit operations and route scheduling; public research and survey methods, statistical concepts, and data analysis techniques; urban planning processes and local development review practices; mapping guidelines; modern computer and internet applications used for collecting, assessing, and sharing service data.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining plans, reports, and project management; presentation, written communication and public speaking; interpersonal communication necessary to accurately and professionally exchange with the general public, coworkers, colleagues, and elected officials regarding IT's services and interests; locating, analyzing, and interpreting complex datasets, including geospatial data; statistical analysis, mathematics and estimating; locating and citing adopted rules, standards and laws governing public transit service; fluency with spreadsheets, relational databases, web-based mapping tools necessary for the processing, development, and presentation of service data.
